Night Coverage Solutions
with Tele-Hospitalists

Our goal to provide the optimal quality of patient care through close collaboration with emergency rooms, specialists, nursing, case managers and local Primary care physicians.  This teamwork approach results in the highest reported satisfaction of the patients as well as the entire healthcare team.   Among the many benefits of adding our Telemedicine service is the ability to increase hospital revenue and profitability.

Hospital medicine programs face many daily challenges to achieve set goals and success.  These challenges include appropriate physician staffing to avoid burn out, hiring only quality physicians that provide compassionate care, and ensuring there is not any gaps in coverage.  Often these scheduling gaps lead to the use of ‘Locum” companies for urgent needs which can be significantly detrimental towards the budget.  An effective way to address physician shortages and provide continuous night hospital coverage is through the use of Frontline Telemedicine services.  We provide a secure telemedicine platform that allows a seamless implementation of tele-hospitalist services.  Our providers respond quickly allowing a smoother workflow in the emergency room and cross-coverage of floor patients.  The use of Telemedicine increases efficiency of the day and night hospital teams. Primary care physicians especially notice the benefit of this telemedicine coverage model by allowing more focus on their patients in the office with less interruptions.

TELE-HOSPITALIST/TELE-NOCTURNIST SCENARIOS

  • 1 Critical Access Hospitals (CAH)
Generally, CAHs are covered by one 24-hour provider or PCPs which can be overwhelming at times. These challenging shifts lead to difficulty in staffing, physician burnout or new admissions seen the following day. Addition of a Tele-Nocturnist provides relief of the day team or PCP, improves patient care and likely decreasing length of stay.
  • 2 Smaller or Rural Hospitals
Facilities that are less than 100 beds are generally staffed by one provider at night. These are often costly shifts to fill with an in-house hospitalists due to lower nighttime volumes and difficulty with finding reliable staffing. Furthermore, if using Locum providers the costs may be 4X the program’s budgeted rate. Alternatively, these programs can be covered similarly and effectively with a Tele-Nocturnist.
  • 3 Tele-Cross Coverage
Growing hospitalist programs and increasing night volumes require additional staffing. Rather than recruit additional providers, the addition of a Tele-Nocturnist service is often the perfect cost-effective solution to manage all the nurses floor calls. With the addition of Tele-Cross Coverage, the dedicated in-house nocturnists can more efficiently focus on admissions. Our Tele-Nocturnist can also provide surg admissions support if needed.
  • 4 Private Hospital Group/Primary Care
Tele-Hospitalists can cover Primary Care Physicians during office hours or provide night coverage.
  • 5 NP/PA Supervision
Tele-Hospitalists can provide Tele supervision to NP/PA. A Tele-Hospitalist can be readily available to advise and consult with on hospitalized patients. Tele-Hospitalists can also perform day rounding with advanced telemedicine video carts.
